Have you been to your local farmers market recently? Last week we talked about how buying your produce locally can increase your health, but did you know it can also increase your connection with your community.
As you get to know your local farmer you can get to know what they do to raise and harvest their crops. You will gain insight into the seasons, the land and your food. As you participate in this time honored connection between you and your farmer you will begin to understand that you are part of the whole process. Not only will you start to feel more connected with the community, but the money you spend will recirculate back into the local economy, support local families, and help create jobs.
Another way to connect with the community is to find and support the restaurants that purchase locally grown produce for their menu. The more you eat at those restaurants the more stimulated the economy of your community. We know a few restaurants in Scottsdale, AZ that purchase their produce locally: Fellow Osteria, New York Bagels n Bialys, and Bitters Bar. Be sure to check them out if you are in the neighborhood.
Together we are more powerful and we can start to impact a greater change.
