What is your Pest Prevention Plan?

What is your Pest Prevention Plan?

A pest prevention plant is really a plant health plan. Caring for your plants properly and incorporating these few tips will help your garden be successful. Those little bugs can do some major damage to your plants, and we have some tips that can help.

Throughout the fall, until the temperatures start to get to freezing at night, we are going to keep feeding every week. Then we move to every other week. Then once a month. As the temperature continues to decrease we are going to keep reducing the amount of feedings.

Some of the ways you can feed are:

  • Fish emulsion. We spray this at night. If you put a couple of drops of peppermint essential oils, it doesn’t smell as bad.
  • Compost tea
  • Organic fertilizers

Another way to improve your plants health and improve pest prevention is to use manure or compost. Some good choices are:

  • Deodorized manure is best (it’s fully composted)
  • Mixed mulches – an inch of good mulch, which is wood based to help moisture and balance the temperature of the soil, is going to help insulate the soil so your sprouts will grow.
  • Eco Scraps – a veggie based product that is already broken down
  • Soil conditioner – amendments that have a good blend of a lot of different things that have been decomposed.

If you are using your own made compost, make sure there is nothing inside of it that is recognizable. If you can recognize something, like a banana peel, then it isn’t ready to be used.

Incorporating these tips in your garden will help to improve the health of your plants which will decrease the amount of pests you will have to deal with. If you want to learn more about pest prevention, you can join us in our Agriscaping Mastery Program.
