Winter Gardening Starts with the Sun
The most important factor to keep in mind when preparing for a winter garden is aligning with the sun orientation. The winter orientation is more extreme in how things flow.
1. Get a copy of a satellite image of your house and orient it North at the top of the page to make it easier for you to see how the sun will affect your yard.
2. Find out how the sun orientation will affect your yard. You can use any of the following
a. Visit gaisma.com and choose your location
b. Use the SunSeeker app (*there may be a fee to use this app) or the SunPosition app
c. Have Agriscaping create a microclimate map to show you the different seasons and learn how this will have an affect on how you grow things.
3. Understand your microclimates – many seeds need full sun to grow. Understanding your sun orientation and the elongation of the shadows in the winter will benefit your growing.
